Burton School District Information for Prospective Employees
All Kindergarten through 6th grade classes in the Burton School District are essentially self-contained. Each of our Kindergarten through 3rd grade classes have implemented the state's Class-Size Reduction Program, ensuring the total class enrollment is no more than twenty students. The 6th-8th grade Burton Middle School program is based on core subject are blocks in Language Arts and Math/Science. There is a strong vocal and instrumental music program. The District is committed to the continual upgrading of its programs, including the extensive training and use of computer technology.
Bilingual Education Program
The District offers a varied bilingual curriculum to meet the language development needs of its LEP students. All teachers hired new to the District are required to attain a CLAD or BCLAD credential during the first three years of employment.
Providing for the needs of the children of limited English proficiency is a major goal for the District. To that end, the District is actively interested in speaking with teachers who have any of the bilingual credentials, as well as teachers who are interested in getting into the field.
Migrant Education Program
The Burton Migrant Education Program provides supplementary instructional services to its identified migrant students. The Migrant staff work together in diagnosing migrant student needs and prescribing appropriate instruction.
Special Education Program
The District provides a variety of Special Education programs to meet the needs of its students. The District employs resource specialists, a speech therapist, a school psychologist, a nurse practitioner, and instructional support staff. The Burton Special Education Program emphasizes integration with the regular education curriculum, mainstreaming, and staff development.
