Mrs. McDonald

Resource Teacher

Hi, my name is Verlene McDonald, and I am happy to be the high school RSP teacher again this year. I grew up in Orange County in Southern California, and moved to Tulare 24 years ago. I did my undergrad at BIOLA University in LaMirada CA in the area of Social Science. After working for AT&T for 7 years, I decided to try the field of Education. I started as an Kindergarten aide, substituted for 4 years, and earned my elementary credential from Fresno State.

After teaching elementary for 7 years, I felt led to go into the field of Special Education as a Resource teacher. I earned my Special Ed credential also from Fresno State, as well as my Masters in Special Education. Two years ago I completed a Single Subject English credential as well.

I have taught RSP for 15 years. This is my 9th year at Burton, starting at SCA-Mathew, and moving to SCCA when the school opened 7 years ago. I have enjoyed working with RSP students-some for 7 years, to help them become successful in whatever they pursue in life.

I have been married to my husband, Keith, for almost 33 years. We have 3 children, Sean, Kyle, and Brianna. We also have 6 grandchildren. Recently we had all the family together, which is a treat, since Sean and his wife Laura, and 3 children live in Michigan.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I am also an avid sports fan. My favorites are baseball and basketball. I have been an Angel fan since I was 10. I also play fantasy baseball.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year here at SCCA
