I'm John Lujan, one of Burton Middle School's 7th grade Math teachers. I am one of four children with two sisters and one brother. I was raised right here in Porterville CA and graduated form Monache High School in 1988. I have been married to my lovely wife Jackie for over twenty years. Our daughter Ceslie attends Porterville College and is working on a degree in Communications.
I graduated from CSU Bakersfield in 2005 with a Liberal Studies Degree. I taught 2nd grade at Strathmore Elementary for two years before deciding to teach middle school Math. This will be my seventh year teaching at BMS.
Last year I was trained in the RY, Reconnecting Youth. This is a program to help students make better choices. I hope to make BMS a fun learning experience while showing real-life applications for Math. I enjoy athletics and I coach both football and baseball here at BMS.
I also enjoy gardening and am the club advisor for the BMS Green Team. My Green Team has been involved in the Tulare County Board of Supervisors Step-Up Challenge. The last two years our club has been awarded the Sustainability Award. Last years project was building self-esteem through community activism. We donated over 1,000 pairs of socks to the local homeless and needy. We also prepared three lunches for over 100 hungry citizens working with the Saturday Ministries. Students have built and work in our garden that has flourished this year. Any and all students are welcome to join our club. We meet every Friday after school to clean campus, recycle, and work in our garden.
